Well, if pictures are worth a thousand words, then I´m about 30000 words behind. I will try to catch up.
We started the camino to beautiful clear weather and it has only gotten better from there. It`s now hot at about 11 am, and if even Nathan thinks it´s hot, though he never complains. We started walking today at 7 am, in the dark, but in the cool. Everyone is somewhat confused that the hot weather is still so prominent, but we are certainly not complaining. Better this than rain....
If you ever decide to do this walk, don´t be fooled by the ultramarathoners: the walk is hard and tiring. Nathan and I are seriously looking at our packs and how to decrease the weight. We have decided to send our sleeping bags home along with a few other things that will hopefully lighten our loads. It´s no use to be miserable and completely knackered all the time on arriving into the towns. However, we are getting stronger, and after 16km today, are feeling pretty good. My calves are no longer screeching at me every time I move, for instance, which is a blessing.
Spain is of course, a beautiful place, though we are not getting to eat as many vegetables as we usually do. We have had to buy vegetables and defensively had a huge salad the other day...for breakfast, since we didn´t want to carry all those veggies any distance. There is a lot of sausage and cheese around, and, well, Nathan doesn´t take too kindly to dairy or pork, as some of you may know. I, however, am revelling in the inability to completely avoid some of those savouries...hahahahahahaha! We are currently walking through wine country and the grapes and olives are ready to be harvested. There are fig trees all over which people don´t seem to harvest very much, so I am helping out with that. We are getting used to sleeping in albergues and having snoring sleeping mates. We use our ear plugs alot, and if you ever had need of good ones, I know a place....
I will continue to write as I am able, though as previously mentioned, there are not often US keyboards, so the entries may be a bit further and farther between.
