Temple Details

India has some of the world's most remarkable temples and these structures are a major reason that tourists and pilgrims visit the country. So I suppose it makes some sense that the country would try to gain monetarily from them. The cost to enter many sacred sites was between $5 and $10 CAD. And in Varkala we were approached by a police officer who informed us that we had to purchase an extra pass of some kind to take photos of the temple; this was also fairly common practice.

 

All I can say is that it was nice to be in a place where the major law enforcement duty was to insure that someone properly pay for the privilege of taking a photo of something pretty. We should all be so lucky.
