We have changed countries yet again and are now in Malaysia. This is a place where many different nationalities come together and all live fairly peacefully. Indians, Thais, Burmese, Chinese, Malay...you'll find someone from everywhere here. And of course, along with the people comes the....FOOD! Nathan was afraid that we would never have Indian food again, but lo and behold, there is a thriving Indian community here in Georgetown, Penang, our first stop, and we have been eating India food every day. Hurray for idli (rice dough balls that you eat with curry sauce for breakfast)! Nathan is very happy.
It's getting on into the really hot season here (or so it seems to me) and the sun is so fierce that when I stop walking and my feet are in the sun (the only part of me habitually uncovered and facing up at the sun) it feels like your face feels when you're right next to a big campfire. You know how your face is very hot but your back is cool? Well, my feet feel like your face feels in front of a campfire...like they're burning and you should move away. Tough to move away when you're outside and the sun is up there, though. I have decided to just go ahead and take the plunge and order one of those full length swimsuits: to the wrists and to the ankles. There is just no point in trying to get a tan over here, and sunscreen is heavier (and more expensive) than just carting around a full length suit. So, ho hum, geekdom again.
When we were in Koh Phi Phi, which is an island in Thailand, it was so hot that the cats actually hung out in the fridge in this one restaurant that we ate at. I looked down one day and there were two cats sleeping under the cans of soda and beer. I actually wouldn't have minded curling up with them. I will enclose photos one of these days.
It is official and we have bought tickets so that we can spend the summer in Ontario and the US. We will be hitting Houston, North Carolina, Toronto and area, and Ottawa. It will be good to see some family and friends and regroup a bit. I think that I will enjoy the rest of our travelling that much more, after I have recharged my batteries with a summer in North America. I've been a bit homesick.
Well, that's all for now. We will be travelling to the tea plantations in the Cameron Highlands and to the Perhentian islands to see some more fish sometime in the next little while. We will hit Kuala Lumpur and maybe stay a month, if the location suits us. We are still pretty footloose and trying not to decide anything too far in advance...execept, of course, coming home.
